I have a bit of trouble smooth shifting from 1-2 as well, under moderate acceleration. I'm getting better at it... I just think the gas/clutch modulation is a bit tricky.
However, I haven't noticed anything the OP is describing. If I shift hard into second at 4000 or above, I can easily squeal the tires. Hell, my brother got them to chirp on a 2-3 shift. I'm not sure how he did that... He was driving it pretty hard.

Mine doesn't do this... Traction control OFF completely and the tires will spin like crazy on a hard shift into 2nd gear. The back end kicks out a little bit and the NPP screams bloody murder. There is absolutely no bogging or chugging or lag of any kind. Sounds like maybe the clutch is being released too fast w/o enough throttle? Maybe try to go a little earlier and heavier on the gas pedal?
