No increase in noise, no rattles. The upper aluminum post, with threads for the knob, fit very snug onto the lower shift post, I used liquid soap. I also liked the 2 small screws, with rubber isolators for the cap screw heads, that attach the upper post to lower. For those who may be concerned about the amount of work to install, they may want to have a shop do it for them. I think it's definitely worth it. Going into 1st is a little tight, but going into 2nd is a dream, so much shorter and solid click in. Going forward into 3rd goes right in, and all the rest are good. Even reverse is much better. Unexpectedly, I held onto 2nd for an oh s... handle and it was great, very rigid, no play.
