One of my favorite drives is Highway 49 from Nevada City to Sierraville in Northern California. It's a smooth ribbon of 2 lane road that winds through the mountains. It follows the North Fork Yuba River most of the way. Very twisty with lots elevation change. Crazy fun and challenging to drive fast and best of all, almost no traffic in the fall and spring. I discovered this road when I was flyfishing the North Fork Yuba. The fishing is spectacular and so are the views. Downieville is about halfway through and is a great place to stop and eat lunch.
