I just leave my phone in that little console compartment where the USB ports are. With the Android Auto software on you can't access anything on the phone itself anyway. I do everything through the informant system with voice commands. Except selecting music stations. That still has to be done through the touch screen.
Directions, when you need them, are verbal and the map is presented on the touch screen.
