Thanks for the input. I agree that at some time in the future a set of headers, a CAI, and a good tune would add a lot. I'm new to the PD ownership and I am becoming convinced that this is the way to go for a DD. I'm now thinking about selling the Audi TT with the big turbo because I just don't think I'll be driving it much. It's a fun car, but temperamental to drive with the boost hit. (Something like a centri?)
I do note that your long tubes only added 20 rwhp. Given the price of a full exhaust setup, I don't see this as a "must have" at the moment. Frankly, I like the relatively quite exhaust setup right now and may only do long tubes with the stock exhaust. I think a CAI and a tune will yield the best "bang for the buck" for this setup.
I also agree that Edelbrock has to tune conservatively to reduce their exposure to "your SC blew up my engine" lawsuits. So I plan to just drive it and enjoy it for a while to stay in the warranty window. Maybe I'll get it tuned later when I'm satisfied the bugs are worked out and I'm confident that I won't need the warranty.
I've learned through the years that someone else will always have something faster/quicker/more powerful than I have. I now just go by what gives me the driving experience I want and leave it at that. As it sets, it's a great all-around package; may not change a thing.
