No advertising "hurts" sales, just many times is ineffective for the cost/return on sales.
I think more problem lies in pricing of the LT cars and general lack of eagerness to sell these cars by the majority of dealers.
Also remember, it's the LT cars that need to sell. And people generally don't care about performance there, just features, price, MPG, and style.
