I didn't buy it new, because I was broke and just out of school. Spent a couple grand and modded it as I went. Built it a piece at a time with money in my pocket and some elbow grease, not with a bank loan or at someone else's shop. It's as fast on the street as a gen5 ss, for WAY less money and it actually gets noticed at a car show or cruise night.
I'm here considering a 1SS b/c it has a warranty, a/c, and similar straight line performance (marginally better) to what I currently have.
A 1SS has enough performance that with the exception of a few talented grease monkeys is tough to be attained with another platform for equal money. Even new paying sticker, it is very close to the best performance for the money to be had at high $30's. Push it to high $40's, not so much. Just go get a used vette at that price point, same goodies with less weight.
If you have the scratch for a 2SS and think it's worth it to you, buy all means enjoy the car. I'm just pointing out the fact that the consumer in general is not taking the bait at the higher price point of the 2SS for the reasons I mentioned.
