GM has already said it laps basically the same times on their test track as the last gen SS. So one can assume that it loses time on the straights to the 5th gen SS, but makes up the time in handling and braking.

That said, even if you didn't get the 1LE version, even the standard V6 appears to be a great drivers car.

This might sound strange, but I don't get many chances to go WOT on my SS...its just so stinking fast lol. I kind of miss wringing out my old 5th gen V6.
KMP, you're right that I'm not targeting crazy power/speed. Just want something with power that I can access. As a kid of the 80's, most of the cars of my dreams were as quick or slower than the 6th gen v6 Camaro. These cars were not nearly as safe either. I've read many great things about this platform in the ATS. I just can't warm up to Cadillac interiors, else I'd probably have bought my wife an ATS this past March.

I hope you're expectations are correct regarding the handling. This car seems like it would be a significant value from a handling perspective. Many articles I've read suggest GM put their dollars into the platform for the ATS. I'm happy to see the cross application to the Camaro.

I've never been a big Camaro guy. An ex-girlfriend in the 90's bought herself a new '98 Trans Am as her first car out of college. On occasion I'd persuade her to throw me the keys to take it for a spin. That thing was a blast.... just found this article. Crazy how far these cars have come in 18 years or so. The as tested price of $31K is equivalent to $45K today for very similar performance to the RS. I wonder what kind of $$$ you had to spend 20 years ago to get today's SS performance?

I'm looking forward to seeing what the 1LE package will cost and how it will perform. I hope to daily this car, but still mix in my Street Triple R moto for a different kind of adrenaline fix. Will have a paid for '10 Subie Forester for grocery and kid moving duties and my wife's Volvo S60 T5 AWD for occasional client duty.

As you moved from a 5thgen v6 to the SS, do you feel the extra performance was worth the price delta? Is the SS handling that much better than your v6?

Thanks again. Everyone's responses have been great.
