I get the feeling that the dead zone or non-linear behavior of the peddle is a safety feature to eliminate the chance that a oem throttle could be on the upper end of tolerance and put out voltage while the peddle isn't being pressed. (wild guess)

In either case, it feels very non-linear until you are pushing the peddle passed it. Like you push down and nothing, then you get a little something but then it just goes straight to "i'm alive" as you try to compensate for the car not moving as much as you expect it to. It feels less like the part has play and more like the ECU is tuned to respond that way.

I'd expect this throttle addon to mask that behavior since the amount of peddle travel is reduced so it would be harder to put the peddle in that initial range with that behavior.
