Use a loan calculator to figure out what you can or can't afford. Shouldn't be news that if you want a 44k car you need a lot down to make the payment 500 a month.
When I was 19 I paid about 2000 every year for insurance on a 1989 Oldsmobile. Liability on a slow cheap car. Dropped drastically when I turned 21 though.
