Ordering Review & My Order: Selman Chevy - Orange CA

This is on the long side but I just wanted to share this part of my journey so far. Especially since it's been positive so far. Some of the credit goes to you all for the valuable info I've gotten here on Camaro6. I've been lurking around for a while now.

So I decided this past Wednesday was time to order! Especially after hearing the order guide was changed to reflect the blade spoiler being available soon.

My strategy was to email several dealers in my area and hope one would give me the pricing I was hoping for. Beforehand I asked everyone in my area for feed back on my post so I could start with those. Something told me just to send it to Selman first though before sending a bunch out. I was hoping they would win out anyway because I think it's always good if you buy where you plan to service the car and they are also closest to my work. Their website had a "contact us" online form but I wanted to send my email directly to someone to start the paper trail, so I called and asked the receptionist who I could talk to about ordering a car. Someone who has a reputation for good follow up. She transferred me to Vince Eible, the Internet Sales Manager.

After a brief conversation I sent him the email I had drafted. About 45 minutes later I had a quote back from Vince confirming they had an allocation for my order, AND pricing that exceeded my expectations! I was confused LOL , I didn't even have to negotiate. It was that good . He asked if I wanted to come the next day to place the order and it was one of those situations where I was thinking, "I better go before he changes his mind"!

When I got there he was a nice pretty down to earth guy. I found out he's from Michigan but lived out here through high school and went back for college. He stayed there and had a long career working at a GM plant. When he retired he came back to CA and started selling cars. We went on a test drive and he stood by and tried not to laugh as I test fit my hockey bag in the back of their Camaro. It fit barely by the way, man that trunk opening is not very wide but I can make it work! He was more than willing to accept all the things I wanted to have. He showed me their allocation for that week on their internal chart, he said there would be no issue giving me a copy of the GM workbench with order #, sold as SRE and with my name on it, and I already had the pricing in writing on the email. All the transparency I was hoping for.

The only hang up we had was the system was still not accepting the 5ZU blade spoiler so he said we would make some calls and follow up since I had until Tuesday to change the order. No sooner had I arrived back at home I had a call from Vince telling me there was an internal memo to dealers saying orders for 5ZU would be accepted next week and wanting to know if I wanted to wait (which I did). He sent me a copy of the memo and I copied it here for everyone. He said it's a good probability they'll have an allocation then as well but if they didn't they would call and get one. He went on to say there probably wouldn't be an issue, I assumed because they are a higher volume dealer and it's for a sold order.

So there you have it. I'm not usually a big reviewer, my Yelp account is pretty pathetic. I thought Selman and Vince deserved a good word so if you live in the area give them a shot. When my order is officially accepted with 5ZU I will let you guys know!
