On the RS, it went just above the piece without touching, that you have to remove for the factory tow hook, since factory tow hook is a bigger diameter, not sure on the SS. But the diameter of the shaft is about the size of the threads.
So if you can straight shot look at the threads without seeing anything between the threads diameter and where your looking. then it will clear.

Something i would say about it thou. If you don't want the tow hook part, If you know of a local machine shop. Buy the plate holder from them and take measurements on the distance from the threads on the cars tow hook mount, to where you want the plate to be(add 3/4" for threads).
Then go to a machine shop with the factory tow hook and have them take a steel shaft and put the same type threads of the tow hook on one end(about 3/4in of threads) and then have them bore and thread the center of the other end for the bolt to mount to the plate.

Just remember, you have to remove the plate to unbolt the plate holder to remove the extension to put in the factory tow hook. If you get their tow hook, you still have to remove the plate to remove the plate holder to screw in their tow hook. So plan for it(having tools to remove in the trunk), so you can get it ready if ever need towed, otherwise, i think the tow guy will charge for the labor if he has to remove it.
