Camaros - do seem to be different. But all bets are off if you're wanting to be first in line from a waiting list. Allocations are always an issue with low production number, top HP cars. Be careful you don't get in a contract with someone who can't deliver.
If I were going the list route, I'd sure be looking up a high volume dealership, who will courtesy deliver to a local dealership. You should pay no more than an extra $500 for the service.
