I've seen some quirkiness on my S6 potentially caused by bluetooth. Android auto forces a bluetooth connection, even in airplane mode and even if you unpair at the car and on your phone, even if you remove permissions in Marshmallow (tested that on my Nexus) the minute you plug in, bluetotoh is enabled (heh, was funny cuz airplane mode was still on) and you are connected.
I found that forgetting/unpairing my previous pairing (on my phone and headunit) that i did prior to the android auto update has helped. I was getting periodic device lockups on my S6 or unresponsive apps on the android auto interface (google music wouldn't open). All seems to be better now but i'm still not ruling out a bad cable. Need to test more days as the issues weren't frequent.
