2013 Boss 302 was not a 1st year model on a brand new chassis. (2005)
2011 Outback 3.6R was not a 1st year model on a brand new chassis. (2010)
2006 STi was not a 1st year model on a brand new chassis. (2004)
2005 Outback XT was made in 2003, but only delayed to the US as an '05. Again... not a new chassis (was out for a year elsewhere as a 2003).
'99 2.5RS was not a new chassis either as the GC had been out since... '92 (However, it was the 1st year for the SOHC Phase II 2.5L, but that doesn't play into your quality qualms).
Before that, you may have had 'new' cars. But these above were out for at least a year and in many times MANY years.
