my first car had 4-on-the-floor, 64hp and no tachometer.

The trick to teaching your left foot how to modulate the clutch smoothly can be done in an afternoon.

Find a large parking lot or low-traffic neighborhood with wide streets.

on a fairly flat street, use 1st gear and only your clutch foot to get the car rolling. no throttle.

repeat until it is easy.

Now use 2nd gear and only your clutch foot to get the car rolling. no throttle.

repeat until it is easy.

Now use 3rd gear. no throttle.

repeat until it is easy.

Your clutch foot is now trained. no tach required. starting off in 1st with a small amount of throttle should be child's play.
