Sounds like you're not getting any coolant flowing. Could be a thermostat, pump, or both...

Crappy experience, I'm sorry to read it. Good news is - this is (hopefully) an easy fix.

I don't know if you knew this...but there is an accessory mode, and a "service mode" with the push-button ignition. Without pressing the brake pedal, push the button once to enter Accessory mode. Without pressing the brake pedal, push and hold the button for more than 5 seconds. One of those two modes would have allowed you to shift into neutral.
