No family link required, I dont sugust paying the extra money a month, family link can only be accessed by computer, and If i track on family link it tracks my car in Toledo rail yard. If I track it with my app it shows exact location being in Hammond IN. and the app shows up to date movement every time refreshed. the app will allow you to start, unlock doors, lock doors, show fuel tire pressure everything. I am cancelling my Family link due to its false location, I have contact onstar and they said if the vehicle is not started at least every 48 hours that it only gives you the last location, The app works great without starting your vehicle, However after 10 days of vehicle not being started, the App and onstar can not access the vehicle cause the vehicle goes into sleep mode.
My Highly recommendations:
Get Onstar, your dealer can activate it through their onstar dealer website, After they activate it go to the website and finish the registration and BOOM you can do all kinds of stuff from you phone, check my 1/4 post i have posted pictures of the app. I have used the app for the last three Camaros and love it,
The good thing about family link is you can set up alerts and it will text you the location (not Accurate most of the time) to you phone whenever you want it, I have mine to text me hourly the location.
