To me, LED lighting looks lame because, as Eric SS points out, there's no performance value. It's not a side effect of anything, and it doesn't help the pilot out at all.
Underglow is definitely lame and generally found equipped on cars (usually an Asian 4 banger) with sh***y, obnoxious aftermarket exhausts. However, I think the glowtie is tasteful and I'll definitely be adding one when the black version is released. I also plan to add the performance intake when it finally drops just because I'm a heathen who thinks performance and aesthetic only mods can coexist in harmony on a car.

Underglow bashing aside though, I was actually searching the other day to see if some LEDs that had the effect like you described existed. I thought an orange LED exhaust kit that outlined the tips and increased in glow brightness with acceleration would be pretty cool - making it look like jet afterburners. Unfortunately there's nothing close to that in existence that I could find. I'm guessing the heat from the exhaust makes something like this a challenge?
