Safety....specifically...tires. Typically, top speed on cars like this are limited to the speed rating of the tire. Going well over that limit can literally make a tire shred apart, which I don't think anyone wants when they are going 150mph down the highway.

There is a thread in the Other Cars Discussion section where this happened to a Mustang on the Dyno. The tire blew and it really messed up his car bad....and that was just on a dyno. Imagine on the road???

That's why I'm a bit surprised we've seen a member push the SS to 170mph. The last gen RS/SS tires were rated at 155, or something like that. Are the 6th gens tires rated much higher?...or did GM really skip the limiter on the SS?
