The purpose of the break in period is to allow your mating surfaces to polish themselves against each other. Drive it like you stole it from day one and you're going to potentially destroy the temper on your mating surfaces, in particular your cam lobes.
Modern machining processes are not good enough to eliminate friction. Period.

You car. Break it in how you want.
