It destroys the entire image of the car for me. But that is just for me and how I feel about the car and it's history. I will still be glad to see more Camaro's on the road anyhow. Even the new Mustang is growing on me. The stance looks awesome (low and planted). But I still can't get over that rounded ass.

Wait until you get lined up with a modded LTG 4 banger at the light and he (or she) blows your doors right off after it turns green. Then, it's off to shopping the Summit/Jegs catalog to get more mod parts for your V8.
I have a V6 and I never had to answer that question. In fact. I'm constantly amazed at the high tech GM put into the LFX and I will mention it anytime I get the chance. 323hp with 30+mpg is pretty impressive.
What you seem to not realize is that some people buy cars for their own individual tastes, not to impress other people. If I really wanted one, I could've purchased a new "V8" Camaro. However, I didn't want to for various reasons. So, when you see a V6'er cruising around, don't automatically assume that they have a V6 because they couldn't afford the V8.
