If you are going to drop 50k grab a GT350, or the black friday ZL1 or Z/28. The uniqueness of these vehicles will maintain the value. Look no further than the Boss mustangs which are still holding approx 85-90% of their original value. How is a 2013 SS or GT doing?
As a 2013 2SS 1LE owner I tend to agree with you. My car is loaded up with every option available in 2013 and the MSRP was right around $43k. I paid $38.5. The car is only worth $25-27k right now. A regular $50k camaro is not going to hold its value as well as a Corvette or some other special edition. That is the problem I am having with trading in my current ride for Camaro. At those prices more cross shopping takes place. Especially if you want more than just performance.
