Probably no issue with punching paper. But the 5.56 relies on higher velocities to help with yawing (velocity has a tendency to be lower in shorter barrels), assuming FMJ. The yawing allows the 5.56 to be more effective in terms of terminal ballistics for both 4 legged and 2 legged critters. However, if it (and the operator) is accurate enough to hit moving targets in the earhole, then I guess terminal ballistics don't mean much.
I suppose it comes down to purpose/intended use and preference. I think it looks cool though.
