Ford basically figured F-150 would be good enough, even for people who didn't need or want an F-series. A lot of those people went to Tacoma and now to Colorado/Canyon.

But like I said, in the long run, Toyota is probably panicking right now. Ironically enough, the Tacoma reeks of last-gen Ranger, it's been withering on the vine with only minor updates for years now. There probably isn't an all-new model scheduled for a few more years out, by then Colorado/Canyon and Ranger will have eaten into Tacoma's market share.
