So, has anyone compared the two platforms in any detail to show the strengths/weaknesses of both? So far it's just people deciding one is better than the other based on what a model built on the Alpha weighs.

Alpha IS more advanced than the Mustang, that is a fact. Go to your little computer and use your little mouse and do a little homework.
