It isn't all about HP, or even weight. Look at the performance numbers for the 2016 SS and compare them to the new GT. GT doesn't weight a whole light more and only 20 HP difference, but the gap in straightline performance is large. Add to that the abysmal lateral Gs of the GT and it is reasonable to expect you the SS will dominate on the strip and track. The Gen 5 GT500 definitely dominated at the strip when compared to the ZL1, but not at the track, even though there was a 100 HP difference. Say Ford comes out with a 6th Gen GT500 that is 720 HP; it will likely weigh more than a 6th Gen ZL1 replacement at say 640 HP, and not have the track focus of what we are seeing in these videos. It may come out the same as last generation...GT500 quicker in a straight line (but gap significantly less) and slower at the track (perhaps with a larger margin than before). We shall see, but I wouldn't discount the LT4 in the new Alpha platform just yet.
