Buy low, Sell High, don't get greedy, don't be afraid to take your money off the table when you are up, they play with the markets money. Never short stocks and never invest more than you can afford to lose.
Seriously though, only two options if you are going to invest, spend a lot of time up front learning the basics and start slow, or buy in to managed funds (but not right now) One of the best investments right now is cash and will be until the deflation ends and inflation starts.
