I had first hand experience against my friend who had a similar build as my 98 against my 2010 ss. His is a full option t-top 2000 z28 with 418 rwhp. Not quite as fast as my 98.
Butt dyno I thought for sure it was faster. The 5th gen being more refined, heavier and more planted numbs the sense of power and speed slightly. We raced a few times and I always won but it was fairly close. A very aggressive h/c ls1 build north of 450 rwhp is still the faster platform compared to the 5th gen at the strip in my opinion.
I'm thinking the 6th gen will finally definitively surpass the 4th gen in drag strip potential mod for mod etc.
