Have you done any video games programming in the past?
It's basically that but more rules.
Start with Tic Tac Toe game, it's easy to learn AI.
Once you're comfortable, you can move on to Chess AI.
When you mastered that, try video games (MMORPG, RTS) AI.
Eventually you can move to conversational AI.
boundary AI (Like a Roomba)
When you've aced it, try putting all of that together to simulate AI of a human brain.
