In reality, GM probably didn't want T-Tops, they had to have them because the chassis wasn't strong enough to not have them, and now you guys all want them for nostalgic reasons even they are completely unnecessary structurally.

The advantage of T-tops, particularly with no trunk, is they are much easier to store and secure.
If you look at a Corvette with the removable targa panel it is designed to be stored securely via a latching system. This has been the case for at least as long as C4.
Looking back to the C3 Corvette it had T-tops (oh wait..............you mean the Camaro wasn't the first car to have T-tops? Oh nose!!!!) and even those were stacked on the back with no where to put them.
If you want a Targa, you want to be able to take them out and store the top somewhere. Take a simple measurement and see where you could securely store a one piece Camaro roof panel.
If you are in a car like the Corvette, the panel is essentially stowed in the passenger compartment so it must be latched to meet certain G-load conditions.
In the trunk would be ok, but a one piece roof won't fit. So T-tops have that advantage.
Neither is likely to make it for the Gen 6. Too many problems with reduced structural rigidity and too many issues with storage of the top panels.
