I disagree with anyone thinking the V6 won't get a performance pack option.
Will it get a full on track option? Maybe not. But the V6 deserves a performance pack option similar to the EcoBoost and I think we'll see it. (A non-SS model was spotted testing at Nurburgring)
Ford did it for the last gen V6 Mustang, and now for the EcoBoost and not the V6 (The old V6 with PP tests quicker in the 1/4 than the current EcoBoost does and I don't think Ford wanted to jeopardize sales of the EcoBoost) and Dodge also had a performance oriented package for its V6.
To me, it doesn't make sense NOT to offer it. I believe the V6 will not be a "base" engine, but instead will go up against the EcoBoost. So Chevrolet should offer a package that consists of lower gearing, and suspension components (and possibly SS brakes?).
A 335HP, 3,500-ish lb Camaro V6 with something around 3.55 gears and suspension upgrades would be a quick and fun car. A few simple mods and you'd be looking at 350+ HP. Definitely quicker in the 1/4 than a 2015 stock EcoBoost.
A bit off topic, but just for fun I ran some weight to HP numbers.
2015 Camaro SS (L99) - 400HP - 3,900 lbs. 9.75 lbs/HP
2016 Camaro V6 - 350HP (mods) - 3,500 lbs. 10 lbs/HP
It ends up being pretty close. Of course...TQ is a different story.
Current 2015 Camaro V6 - 323HP - 3700lbs (that's being generous) 11.45 lbs/HP
Another just for fun:
2016 Camaro SS - 450HP - 3,750lbs - 8.33 lbs/HP
