Not only that but in the current market as DGthe3 pointed out you can't have that much internal competition. This isnt the 60's anymore. There isn't room in the Chevy line up for another 2 door V-8 powered vehicle.
Make something new, tackle a new market. GM has shown that they can build one hell of a pony car when the right people are pressing the buttons. 1LE, SS, ZL1, Z/28, that's an impressive line up to take on Mustang and Challenger. I would love to see GM battle Ford in the hot hatch segment, the Focus ST and RS need some competition.
