I was able to log in (online) yesterday, even got in a game with 2 others in it. But that didn't last long, and I was never able to run any missions that required 2 people (couldn't join or get anyone to join the mission). I could only get races to work, and I was the only one racing.
After all that, I logged in later to find my online character was gone and I had to create a new one. But at that point, it was 'prime time' and I couldn't even get online working beyond character creation.
As for online games having terrible launch day issues, I agree with you Silverlsinva... it seems that companies are never prepared. There was one exception recently... SWTOR.
Although the game didn't seem to live up to its hype, the way SWTOR was released was the best way to release a heavily anticipated online game. They opened servers early for those who preordered, and would let people on the based their preorder date. This kept the servers from becoming flooded all at once, and really was the best release of a game that I've ever experienced.

It's a video game and it happens with almost every popular online release. SWTOR was only able to have a smooth release because the way the let people in (over time). As long as they get it running smooth in the first week or two... months from now, this will be all forgotten.
