I had a similar situation in my apartment. The challenge was that my room and my son's room flank the living room on both ends. I originally had my modem and router setup in my room, and had to configure the living room such that the TV was on the same wall as the outlet in my room. It was awkward and a bad setup.

When my son got his own XBOX, we needed two wired LAN connections plus the TVs. So, I moved the modem and router to his room (on the side that faces the living room), drilled a hole through the wall and installed two special LAN connectors and face-plates on each wall. They were special because they allow you to plug in a LAN cable on either side. I used a very short cable that stayed in the wall to act as a jumper between the two outlets.

Works great, and I was able to install a different cable outlet on the same wall so I could reconfigure the room. I bought all the parts from http://cyberguys.com
