Road Tar

So, I live in Pennsylvania, and we're currently in the middle of the Road Work season (common joke around here is that there are three seasons in PA: Winter, Almost Winter and Road Work)

Anyway, I was driving my fourth gen the other day and wound up in the middle of some road work and now have little spots of tar all over the driver's side. I know people use everything from peanut butter to gasoline to try to get the stuff off, but I want to keep my paint as safe as possible, so what do/have you guys used, or what would you recommend?

(I'll probably update this with pics in a few minutes)
