This is a very important nuance....it has
everything to do with GM's new corporate structure...before the restructuring, many models bearing an 'SS', or 'V', etc were developed separately from their mainstream "other self" by the GM performance division.
Now, they'll apparently be co-developed with the mainstream vehicle model, like the Camaro SS, and now the CTS coupe V...I assume this because we haven't heard anything about a reinstatement of the performance division. So, GM performance isn't dead like some feared.
