If that is, in fact, the cause, then someone seriously dropped the ball.

All "oversized loads" are required, by law, to submit paperwork to the state department of transportation (or whatever their roadway maintenance and design organization is called) for review to make sure their route can handle whatever they are transporting.

If the truck driver/company didn't submit the paperwork, they are in some serious doo-doo.

If the truck driver/company did submit the paperwork and the DOT approved it, someone at the DOT is in some serious doo-doo.

This simply should not happen.
