Talking about local hang-outs, McDonalds had just launched the "Golden Arches" restaurant and Shoneys had a drive-in(identical to today's Sonic). We would circle McDonalds then run to the other end of town and circle Shoneys.
Shoneys had a metal roof over the drive-in and my '69 had a full race cam with long tube headers bolted to ASP glass packs and no exhaust pipes. I would idle around Shoneys with the car doing the race cam shake and the metal roof would vibrate like it was about to fall off. I met my wife there and she was a waitress, she has put up with her "Bad Boy" for 40 years now. Still young at heart, and still bad to the bone in my mind.
