A good friend of mine got a ticket for 125 in a 55(was probably going faster) in MD many years ago. Represented himself, cop didn't show up, no fine or penalties imposed.
If the state or area you live in is known to come down hard for things likes this it may be wise to get a lawyer.

yeah here in CA triple digits is a misdemeanor traffic offense, the officer will show up because the D.A. will get the case and subpoena the officer, if he doesn't show he will be held in contempt.

So the hopes that the officer doesn't show isn't an option, because even if his schedule prevents him from showing, a deposition will be taken, and since it in the hands of the D.A. it won't be Citizen vs. Officer, it will be citizen vs. the court.
