Also check the state laws. Most states say that for a ticket to be valid an officer of the law has to witness the event and physically hand you the ticket. I've seen numerous red light and speeding tickets thrown out because of this and also because you have the right to face your accuser and with a automated camera ticket you do not have an accuser to swear in court that the event took place.

I'm not 100% sure of speed cameras, but tickets from red light cams aren't assessed points for this reason. Only a ticket and fine(s) go to the registered owner.
