Picked this game up last night, and have played a little bit of it...
From the start, this game is definitely darker (both physically with lack of light and with content and interactions) than RE 5. I still haven't gotten used to the controls, so I've had a few times where I've died with an herb or first aid spray in my hand.
One complaint I have is that when you do the initial game set-up, default is for you to be connected to the systems on-line network (Playstation Network). So even if you're doing a single player game, without teaming up with someone online, it's still considered "online" play. That doesn't seem so bad, except for the fact that YOU CAN'T PAUSE WHILE ONLINE!
So unless you're going to play co-op or competitively online, turn off the network. It'll make sense when you need a bathroom break.
