Meat also carries a higher fat content (fat is energy dense at 9 kilocalories per gram) than veggies. And depending on specific meat sources, it has potential to be loaded with saturated fats and cholesterol, which are risk factors for cardiovascular (heart) disease.
Eating too many carrots is more likely to make your skin orange/red than weight gain.
It's all about proportion and balance.
Fun-fact: pizza is a balanced foods, as far as calorie sources for carbs/fats/proteins as well as other vitamins and antioxidants (depending on ingredients). So if you're ever taken hostage, and you have the choice of your meals, pizza's not too bad of an option.
