There is alot more reason for a firebird than a clone truck, and clone cuv. For the exact same reason the terrain and the equinox exist, so should camaro and firebird. Some people may want the same package, but for it to look entirely different.

The Silverado and Sierra are trucks. And guess what generates more profit than any passenger car in GM's lineup? Furthermore, expect a big difference between the two, design, feature, and marketing wise with the upcoming 2014 models.
Two cars appealing to the exact same crowd has no place in GM's lineup. Waste of engineering and marketing dollars.
The focus now is profitability, not market share. The only reason to rebadge and rebadge is to chase volume, which is part of what landed GM in trouble in the first place.
Pontiac has no place in the new GM. End of story.
