Out of all, I only ended up with one citation for an equipment violation. Had been a moving violation that got me red- lighted to start with, but even the cop who got me there was pretty cool... no moving cite, no cite for minor in possession (I think he knew how much it hurt to pour 24 cans of rare and precious beer out onto the ground!).

Subsequent stops were for equipment, but the final time I got the red light, I stopped, got out of the car (not protocol these days, BTW), walked back to the cruiser, and in my most irritated voice quickly mentioned how this was the FOURTH freakin' time in an hour... and asked him "Why?" The cops put his hands up (not too often the roles are reversed like that!) and said, "Hey, whoa, sorry... you just looked suspicious is all... sorry to bother you, go on home!"

Since then... my driving habits and equipment issues have been significantly different... haven't had a citation in ten years now... knock on wood!
I know what you're saying...I've told my kid all the time, that there is no way in hell you're gonna get away with anything close to what I did when I was younger.

When we drove by the police station with a six-pack on the roof of the car and were pulled over...the cops let us go because we were almost home...The vast majority of discretion and judgement exercised by the police was fortunately in my favor...Not so with kids in today's world. Anything they do "wrong", and they are "in the computer" forever, from driving records to job resumes...

Definitely don't blame the police or the "system"...that's just the way it is.
The police deal with a rediculous amount of craziness out there that never existed in my youth...and they are under the microscope to be mind-readers and flawless in their duties like never before....

Not sure what my point is here, but even when I did get in trouble with the law, or cited for speeding or whatever, it always popped into my mind, that man, I'm just lucky it didn't happen everytime I deserved it!..Peace!
