Also the GT to SS is a totally different scenarion. HP and torque wise they are VERY close, the GT500 and ZL1 not so much. It is only logivcal that the one packing and extra 70 HAP and 300 pounds less weight is going to be quicker.

I'd like to see any link to a 2012 GT 500 running 11s in the quarter bone stock. Drag Times lists 6, 1/4 mile runs for GT500s ranging from 12.38 to 12.9...not a single bone stock time in the 11s.
If you consider the 12.1 and 12.3 as accurate for the car, that's ok, but there was no question the MT tester said he ran sub 12s...so it really doesn't matter. In another post, I found all the 1/4 mile runs in at leasst 5 magazines including Mustangs and Fast Fords and no 2011 GT500 broke into the 11s. Here's what I found on GT500s with the performance package by SVT:
Car & Driver 12.4
Motor Trend 12.35
Edmunds 12.4
Autoweek 12.3
Road & Track 12.4
Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords 12.02 (using their best driver and every trick in the book)
Not exactly 11 second cars.
If the ZL1 ran under 12s, lets say 11.9, and the average of 6 car magazines equals 12.3 for the current GT500, the difference is .4 seconds, and that's not just slightly faster. Anyone who wins by .4 seconds in the 1/4 mile is at least 5 or 6 car lengths ahead of the competitor if not more.
