The 2013 GT500 could very possibly and most probably will be faster than the ZL1...it should be with a huge weight and HP advantage, but not by much. The advantage is that Ford now knows what the performance of the ZL1 is, they WON"T release the GT500 until it beats the ZL1. They did that with the 5.0 Mustang. When the Mustang 5.0 was in it's planned production configuration, it wouldn't beat a Camaro SS and couldn't match the HP...what did Ford do, they added Tubular headers and Ford racing CAI. That gave them the slight advantage they needed. The GT 500 will follow that pattern.

When you say, "on the average" you mean by taking the slowest gt500 time and the fastest zl1 time. The zl1 is no doubt faster than the '11-'12 gt500, but half a second average is a bit generous considering only one zl1 has run faster than a 12.0. I also don't remember hearing anything about the 5.0 not being powerful enough in it's original form. In fact, I remember hearing the 5.0 in the GT was tuned down slightly to leave room for the Boss and more headroom for the gt500. Assuming suspension changes for the 2013 are minor tweaks is also a bit of a stretch. If they were to only put in beefier control arms and stiffer bushings, combined with launch control and considerably taller gearing, these additions alone on a '12 gt500 would put it into the 11s on stock tires. Now add the 5.8. There are many ways to increase traction on the gt500, just check out their forums. Now when ford is spending the money to add LC, a new differential, and a revised transmission for quicker acceleration, you'd think they're probably going to do the simple suspension upgrades that will help too.
