The 2013 GT500 could very possibly and most probably will be faster than the ZL1...it should be with a huge weight and HP advantage, but not by much. The advantage is that Ford now knows what the performance of the ZL1 is, they WON"T release the GT500 until it beats the ZL1. They did that with the 5.0 Mustang. When the Mustang 5.0 was in it's planned production configuration, it wouldn't beat a Camaro SS and couldn't match the HP...what did Ford do, they added Tubular headers and Ford racing CAI. That gave them the slight advantage they needed. The GT 500 will follow that pattern.
The thing is, no one, even other publications, have gotten 11s yet. motor trend can make excuses all they want, but until 11s are out there, the times we have are 12.1 and 12.3. If I am not mistaken 11 and 12 GT500s HAVE been in the 11s bone stock, so again, if a private owner gets a ZL1 into the 11s, it is still only matching the 11 and 12 GT500. Also the GT to SS is a totally different scenarion. HP and torque wise they are VERY close, the GT500 and ZL1 not so much. It is only logivcal that the one packing and extra 70 HAP and 300 pounds less weight is going to be quicker.
