A great point! And it's worth remembering...it's not as though he was bullying his way to the microphones to say his piece...someone asked - and he answered candidly.
I thought it was clever...had he not done so, I guarantee the ZL1 would have been wrongly dismissed without much of a thought by many people. To me, it's the equivalent of an:
"Over here, don't count us out!"
