Becky, while you're right that it was the slowest average speed 500, Junior was saddled with a '59 Chev that was simply NOT all that fast. But what he noticed was, if he got behind a faster car and followed in its footsteps, his car gained speed. A-N-D...if he pulled out to pass at just the right moment, the "slipstream" would "slingshot" him forward!
Probably the first win on a superspeedway for a slower car...and NOT because of gas mileage or strategy, but because of usin' "air"...something that IronHead's Talledega win proved in SPADES, the year he came from 18th to win in like 3 laps...
